A Holistic Path to Beating Stress

We all know stress can have a negative impact on various parts of our everyday lives, from home and work to general health. To help associates better understand and deal with pressures that could potentially disrupt workplace performance, Rich Graviss Products* organization a “holistic wellness workshop” that addressed not just physical health, but also the behavioral aspects that can affect well-being and job execution.

“The concept of holistic wellness recognizes that our every thought, word and behavior affect our greater health and well-being,” explained Pankajj Chaturvedi, executive director and CEO at Rich Graviss. “It is a way of learning to relate directly to whatever is happening in our lives, of taking charge, and of doing something for ourselves that no one else can do – consciously and systematically working with our own stress, pain and illness, as well as the challenges and demands of our personal and professional lives.”

Because their duties involve so much directing of staff and working harmoniously with other functional areas, management-level associates from Rich Graviss were the first to take part in the holistic wellness workshop. The two-day residential program, conducted by Synergy Holistic Solutions Pvt. Ltd. began with a physical health check that led to a customized diet plan and exercise routine for each participant.

The workshop members then examined in detail the impact that thoughts and feelings can have on behavior and actions and took an inventory of the “holistic wheel” – a list of factors than can affect individual performance, such as occupation, family life, social relationships, finances, emotional self-awareness, and even the environment. Confidential stress profiles also were developed for each participant’s private reference.

The Holistic Wheel

Physical exercises for relaxation and reflection helped the participants synchronize their individual body movements and rhythms, while a “Vision Boarding” collage activity encouraged associates to share personal insights and dreams and then compare them for common themes and points of interconnectedness. Additional team activities – such as group coaching, deep listening and trust-based “appreciative inquiry” – helped the associates better understand each other and strengthened interpersonal relations as they worked toward a concluding moment of mutual admiration and a celebration of togetherness.

The workshop is part of Rich’s commitment to investing in its people, supporting them professionally, and fostering a culture where associates work together as a team and look out for one another.

Energise, Empower, Enlighten

“In the long run, we can best take care of the future by taking care of the present,” Pankajj said. “In the workplace, holistic wellness can be a tool to help associates channel their needs and energies toward achieving desired business results. The participants emerge with a new attitude and heightened motivation to engage and deliver. They also learn that, instead of avoiding challenges, there are strategies for facing them – techniques that can help their lives both professionally and personally.”
