Help for a Hurting Haiti

It is human nature to want to help someone in need. As Rich’s associates, it’s our common nature to turn words into actions that actually make a difference.

Haiti

As Mary Montague, a 12-year Rich’s associate at our Arlington, Tenn. plant, watched the magnitude of a 7.0 earthquake devastate Haiti and its people on the news last January, she immediately felt moved to do something – anything – to make a difference in the lives of those suffering through this natural disaster.

Despite killing more than 200,000 people, the after-effects of this nature disaster left approximately 1.5 million people homeless and more than 180,000 homes were damaged or destroyed.

“It broke my heart to see so many people lose loved ones, all of their personal belongings and more,” said Montague. “Those affected essentially had to start over. I wanted to do something, no matter how big or small, for those folks in need.”

That something was a fundraiser that Mary spearheaded and executed with fellow Rich’s associates. In true Rich’s fashion, our associates came together to raise more than $700 worth of donations. The funds were contributed through Doctors Without Borders, an international, medical humanitarian organization working to assist people whose survival is threatened by violence, neglect or catastrophe.

“We were proud of the money we were able to raise for Haiti,” said Mary. “Every little bit helps – and I know our dollars made a difference for someone.”

No matter how big or small, Rich’s associates spend time each month donating time, talent and donations into communities, both local and global. This is one of the things that make our culture – and people – so special.
